84 river miles from drop-in to take-out in Green River, UT
|
 |
We had five big rafts: two for guests and three more for
equipment. We also had three blow-up kayaks, aka "duckies>' |
 |
The sun could get pretty strong despite the wind and cold
water. So each big raft had a beach umbrella to provide some shade. |
 |
The river had lots of driftwood floating down its high
water. Some pieces were really quite large like that shown here. This one
looks like a duck. |
 |
This one looks like one of the many snakes we saw on shore. |
 |
Here's our boats at one of our stops. |
 |
Despite being in high desert, we saw lots of fauna
especially since the river was its highest in seven years. |
 |
Prickly pear cactus still in bloom late in season. |
 |
More prickly pear cactus. |

The "scourge
of the west", non-native tamarisk was brought from Asia in the 1800s to
prevent erosion. It spreads quickly, consumes too much water (the weight of
its foliage every hour), and is difficult to eradicate. So land management
folks aren't happy. |

Broad vista as Desolation Canyon gives way to Greys Canyon. |

Sunshine heading our way. |

Anasazi,
ancient native americans, petroglyphs on "space cube" a large rock. |
 |
Although we had a book of definitions, I can't recall what
either of these figures mean. |
