Photography Index>Stockholm, Sweden

Had a late May/early June business meeting in Stockholm, Sweden, so I decided to take a long weekend exploring the city. It's very pretty albeit small. I was fortunate with mostly great weather. Commentary and explanation of pics coming soon .... In the mean time, enjoy!

Vasa ship in Vasa Museum, 17th century; salvaged in 1961.
Very decorative stern with lots of carvings

This shows what the stern carvings looked like when painted
Model of the Vasa next to the real Vasa
Bronze model

This is either the Scandinavian museum or the Nordic museum, I cannot recall its name
You probably can't read the banners but they are advertising a Pez dispenser exhibit ;)
Stockholm has lots of public art -- I liked this horsey guy
The royal palace
An iron bridge built in th late 1700s ... the tour guide said that if the water level keeps rising (global warming) they won't be able to get boats under it soon which is a problem
St George and the Dragon (outdoor replica of a statue that is in the Royal Cathedral). Supposedly the dragon represents Denmark.

Gamla Stan or "Old Town" Stockholm, an island that was where everyone lived until the Industrial age

Stortorget square. Medieval era buildings. If anyone has seen the little blue KLM houses (I have a few) these are the originals.
Parliment
Stockholm Cathedral, the royal cathedral.
People waiting to see the changing of the guards in front of the royal palace carriage entrance.

Even army dogs can be naughty sometimes

Kayaking down a river in the middle of the city

City Hall (the tower was closed under renovation)
Approaching summer palace by boat. Shoot, I can't remember the name of the summer palace -- Drumhollden or something?

Formal summer palace gardens

The king fancied all things "oriental." This is a Chinese tea house at the summer palace.

The German church in Old Town

I was looking for them then found the gnomes!

Weekday changing of the guards. Better hats and the cavalry participated.
