Pretty darned close to the boat, this individual is known
as "Nine." Apparently, she used to spend summers in the Cape Cod area but
"moved" to Bay of Fundy a couple of summers ago. She is very curious. |

This individual was unknown by the naturalists on the boat.
But it clearly wanted some attention. It was doing "handstands" slamming her
flukes (fluke slaps) against the water using her strong peduncle muscle. I
think I heard on a whale watch trip that humpbacks' peduncle muscle is the
strongest of all mammals. |
