Dingle Peninsula, Kerry Co.: a gaeltacht
(Irish-speaking) region
I don't know why, but many towns host brightly colored
storefronts which are unusually festive. |
My guess is the color choices represent a marketing tactic
as well as simply having some bright colors in an area where days can pass
without an hour of sunshine. |
Dingle hosts a fairly large fishing fleet. |

The Blasket Islands (uninhabited I believe.) |
Clocháns, or beehive huts dot the Slea Head. MY work
colleagues told me they are where monks used to live. According to the
Dingle Peninsula Web site, "the huts along the Slea Head Drive may well date
to the 12th century when the incoming Normans forced the Irish off the good
land and out to the periphery of the peninsula." |
I tell you one thing, the Irish in the West know their rock
walls. The land is divided into what seems like unmanageably small plots. |
This is a little beach at Slea Head. |

Galway City, Galway Co.

There are a lot more than seven swans a swimmin in Galway!
Typical shot of the Corrib River's mouth into the Galway Bay. |
This guy must have had something caught around its neck. |

St. Nicholas' church. |
Supposedly Christopher Columbus prayed here in 1477 prior
to his famous trip to America. |
Local home of traditional Irish music. |
Brightly colored pedestrian street. |
