"Spheres" - Strange Fruit Troupe from Australia
|
 |
The Galway Arts Festival is an annual 2-week celebration of
Irish and international music, drama, comedy, and other acts. I was really
excited to see the "Spheres" (or "Britney Spheres" as my friend kept calling
them) after viewing photos from prior years. |
 |
Sorta trapeze, sorta acrobat, the actors are strapped onto
20-30 foot tall flexible perches. The flex enables them to soar and spin
through the sky enacting first kisses, dances, and marriages without any
above-head support. |
 |
With colored lights, this year's simple wedding theme
clothes were eye-catching. A truly imaginative show that lived up to my
expectations. |

Macnus Parade
|
 |
I don't know much about the Macnus performing group except
that's it's Irish and world renown. Again, saw photos from prior years which
generated great anticipation. This year's theme was "children and childrens'
games." Specifically "Betty Big Shoes" -- a young girl who grew older and
bigger as the parade progressed had very big white shoes. |
 |
Colorful and inventive, this year's parade featured more
than 500 performers many of whom were local children. |

Living chess pieces. |
 |
You have to admire this little girl's stance against the
court jester! |
 |
Elaborate costume. |
 |
They taught many kids how to walk stilts. |
