Tourism is a major economic industry for Juneau and its
sister inner passage cities. I was astounded by the sheer size of these
ships having never "cruised" myself. |
 |
The precision with which they need to and succeed in
docking is amazing. In this shot, the ship to the left is still under sail
pulling in using side thrusters to dock ably. |
 |
During the docking process, a representative from the ship
is speaking with a cruise ship line association representative who is on
shore, updating each other on current situations both on board and on land. |
 |
Juneau longshoremen secure the ship's lines and maneuver
via fork lift its gang plank. I noticed a fair amount of security at
gangplanks requiring passengers to wear on neck lanyards then display upon
entry plastic photo IDs. |

From the Mount Roberts tram station (1500 ft) this cruise
ship looks like a toy. |
 |
Here's a view of Juneau's channel with a couple of ships in
shore. This was Saturday July 1. The rest of the week, there were four ships
in town at all times. |
